Building a dance with sand

I got infatuated with Kabuki.

I believe that was how this project started out. It was a beautiful young dancer of the Kabuki world. He was all control, grace, intensity, beauty and all others in a body. Inspirations are amazing aren't they?

And then here's the material I discovered by accident. Ok maybe not so much of an accident, but more like chose from a buncha materials which I can work on.

Sand.

Really, I didn't thought I could work with it. It has so much fluidity yet offers so much more control over water. It was so enjoyable, I finished the short film in a fortnight. From planning. to storyboarding to sourcing for materials to post production.

THE LINK:

Just in case anyone is wondering what the song is singing, here is the translated lyrics of that verse.

桜歌 Sakura Uta
(The Cherry Blossom Song)

さくらの花は いつ踊る
歌う七の子 眠る頃

さくらの花は いつ朽ちる
死んだ七の子 昇る頃

When will the cherry blossom flowers dance?
When the singing child of seven sleeps
When will the cherry blossom flowers decay?
When the dead child of seven rises
